Your 6-night, 5-day Salmon Fishing Expedition with SCE begins as our staff greets and picks you up at El Tepual International Airport.

You will enjoy the scenic drive through the southern portion of the beautiful Lakes District into the Patagonian Andes on your way to Yan Kee Way Lodge.  The Lodge is located on the shores of the enormous 332 square miles Lago Llanquihue (Yan Kee Way).  Directly across the lake is Mt. Osorno Volcano surrounded by Vicente Pérez Rosales National Park.  Your lodging will be assigned on arrival at check-in.  Rooms are double occupancy unless other arrangements were made during your booking.  You will have received pre-trip information and suggestions regarding items we recommend you bring for your Expedition.

SCE provides reels with specially designed custom-built rods for you to challenge and temporarily subdue large King salmon before releasing them to continue their procreation journey.  All those beautiful fish you see our guests “hugging” were returned to their home waters where they first began their journey.

Salmon are low light feeders. Tidal and Sol-Lunar activity also influences feeding activity.  These factors are influential and provide guidance, to inform our suggested daily fishing departure times.  You should be on the water and already fishing when fish are most likely to begin their morning bite.  Some guests prefer to fish later in the morning, on some occasions, than departure times recommended.  This is always your choice.  We ask that you make sure you have afishing companion who shares your desired timing and approach to our salmon fishery.

SCE staff will return you to PMC for your flight home on the following Saturday.  You will have booked your round trip ticket departure for the morning flight. There are many interesting places to see and things to do which one could schedule before and/or after your fishing expedition with SCE and your return flight home.

The details of the three fishing packages that Southern Chile Expeditions offer are as follows:

Day 1. Your room at YKW is available for the duration of your Ocean Expedition.  We also provide you with a choice of where to spend the night.  You may choose to return and spend every night at YKW and be chauffeured out to the ocean very early each morning.  Or you may choose to stay in quarters we have out at the ocean, to avoid the longer travel, and allow you to sleep a little longer the next morning.  Both members of your party must agree on the location you choose to overnight.

Once on YKW’s grounds, take it easy, relax from your travels and settle in to enjoy your Expedition. You will share a leisurely dinner with other guests and have time to arrange your gear for the next morning.  Set your cell phone alarm—just in case—to wake you up at the suggested hour to catch breakfast before your first fish.

Day 2. — 6. Monday through Friday you depart for the Ocean.  It is a 1.5-hour drive to the fishing grounds.  Nights you choose to stay out at the ocean, will result in a very short trip to the fishing grounds.  A fishing partner and a fishing guide will accompany you on your Salmon Expedition.

Day 7.  Saturday you will arise to enjoy a leisurely breakfast and ready your gear so SCE staff may return you to PMC.

The Ocean Salmon Expedition 7-day Package is $1500 USD per person per fishing day with the arrival and departure day services, food and lodging at no additional daily charge.  Total cost of the Ocean Fishing Expedition Package is $7500 USD per person double occupancy.

Our first offering of Ocean Salmon fishing began with the 2017/2018 Salmon season.  Guests were separately and simultaneously fishing our two venues daily with varied results.  The Estuary dominates the largest King Salmon category.  The largest King salmon caught last season in the Ocean was only 48 pounds.  However, Ocean fishing proved to be very productive numerically and more species-varied than anticipated.  All guests wanted daily fishing results made available from the two areas to compare with results in the area, which they were fishing on the same day.  Several of our guests suggested we consider offering the opportunity to choose—daily—the area they would fish based on overall fishing results. Thus, the BEST (Bringing Everything Successfully Together) Expedition Package was born.

The BEST program requires we place a fishing guide, in residence, at each venue.  These guides fish each venue all 7 days of the week through out the season.  Daily fishing reports provide BEST guests an informed daily perspective when they select “tomorrow’s” fishing location.  Extra boats motors and equipment are deployed and continually available, in both locations, to accommodate the addition of BEST Expedition guests when they choose to join guests who are fishing that particular venue for the duration of their entire Expedition.  Local accommodation arrangements are also made for BEST guests who choose not to travel back and forth to YKW on those days they elect to fish the Ocean. Those who wish to depart the Ocean and return to YKW every day may do so.

Selection of the BEST Expedition Package must be made when you book your Expedition should you wish to enjoy this approach to catching your salmon.

The BEST Expedition 7-day Package is $1,700 per person per fishing day with the arrival and departure day services, food and lodging at no additional daily charge. Total cost of the BEST Expedition Package is $8,500 USD per person double occupancy.

• The current Salmon season for both venues begins in the month of February and ends the third week of April.

• Again, we stress that we practice and enjoy a catch and release salmon fishery.

• All of the beautiful fish in those photos which our guests are hugging seem to sense, once their photo is taken, they will be released to plant the seed of their future generations which in turn aids the women and men who fish with us to later meet their off-spring.

• We remind our guests that very few people have an opportunity to catch and hold a Salmon weighing over 50 pounds.  Fewer still are those who can honestly say, “….and then I let her swim away to live another day.” It is a very small and elite group of people, my friends, who enjoy salmon fishing today and who can also lay claim to that honor.

• You will receive pre-trip information regarding items we recommend you bring on your Expedition.  These will add to your personal comfort and add to the success of your fishing Expedition

• We have Internet service on the grounds.  So far, all cellular service can be accessed normally and/or deployed via WIFI.

• All costs including your pick up/drop off Airport service, food, house wines with the exception of your personal travel costs, hard liquor, telephone calls, tips and any other incidentals.

• 50% deposit at time of booking and full payment 90 days in advance of your Expedition start date to be wired to YKW Lodge.
