We leave Yan Kee Way Lodge for Petrohué located on the shore of Todo Los Santos Lake. Early in the morning we head towards the mouth of the Manzano River, 20 min. by boat from
Petrohué. Here we enter the thick vegetated forest containing many different species of trees typical to this area. We follow the trail which eventually turns in to a road that was once used by
farmers exploiting the trees of the area, mainly Alerce, valued for its’ quality and economic value. This trail slowly becomes smaller as the marvelous vegetation grows without stopping, all
the while we are accompanied by the Manzano River.
A few hours into the trek, we will stop and fill our water bottles with fresh water, and continue our ascent on the small paths in a dense forest filled with Quilas, Chilcos and other
local plant species. The Alerces trees (similar to Redwoods’), are native to Chile and will captivate you with their beauty and size. This path has its’ reward for soon we arrive at the
Mirador, a spectacular natural balcony where one may observe the wonderful valley in which the River León is born. After the Mirador, the next spot for a rest is a small plain where we may enjoy
the summit of the Mt. Derrumbe, this point is the tree line where the forest ends.
Here we can take off our backpacks and the equipment we used to ascend to the summit of the Andes separating Chile and Argentina and take our time to enjoy the views, including the Seno de
Reloncavi. After enjoying these wonderful “birds eye” - views, we will descend toward Playa Manzano where we board the boat to take us back to Petrohué. Return to Yan Kee Way
Lodge. Special nature trek that may be enjoyed alone or in the company of your family
